Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative

- The Boy Scouts of America has selected a site adjacent to New River Gorge National River to house the new National Scout Jamboree: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.
- The 2013 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree will be held July 15–24, 2013.
- The 2013 National Jamboree will host the first ever community service component.
- The Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative is a group of community leaders from a 9-county region in Southern West Virginia working to identify service project initiatives for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.
- The Citizens Conservation Corps of West Virginia (CCCWV) will serve as the clearinghouse for the community service component of the 2013 National Jamboree.
- 40,000 Boy Scouts will be performing 300,000 hours of community service for 5 days in 9 counties.
9 counties will host community service projects. They include:
- Fayette
- Greenbrier
- McDowell
- Mercer
- Monroe
- Nicholas
- Raleigh
- Summers
- Wyoming
The projects will provide a lasting impact on both the region and the Scouts.
