The highway angels of the West Virginia Courtesy Patrol (WVCP) monitor our state’s highways 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Hours of Operation: 3:00pm to 7:00am. Our toll-free number is 1-888-359-3683. You can also reach the WVCP by calling *SP or 9-1-1 if it’s an emergency.

The WVCP is operated by the non-profit Citizens Conservation Corps (CCC) via contract with the West Virginia Division of Highways.  The Courtesy Patrol provides two equally important benefits to the state. First, it reduces the state’s unemployment rate and/or the number of individuals receiving public aid or assistance throughout the state by providing a variety of employment, training, and educational opportunities as Courtesy Patrol drivers. Secondly, this program benefits the traveling public using our interstate highways and corridors for tourism and local commerce.

The WVCP drivers assist stranded motorists, remove hazards from the roadways, provide gas or directions, change flat tires and, in general, enhance safety on our state's highways and promote good will by lending a helping hand to those in need. The areas of patrol consist of 25 routes on Interstates 64, 77, 79, 68, 81, 70 & 470 and Corridors H (33/48), D (50), L (19), Q (460) & G (119) throughout the state. The Courtesy Patrol is an invaluable asset to the state of West Virginia as the economy continues to transition from one of heavy industry to an economy based increasingly on services and tourism. Courtesy Patrol drivers make our roadways safer and more welcoming for tourists while providing thorough and extensive training for its workers, many of which will become quality workers in the tourism, transportation and other related job sectors.

The strategic partnerships with Division of Highways, Tourism Division, Department of Health and Human Resources, Office of the Governor, Motor Vehicles Division, State Police, 911, city/county law enforcement, Workforce WV, and many more are all of monumental importance to the success of the program.
