Courtesy Patrol is a vital resource

While it appears that there is currently some debate down in Charleston as to the economic and social impact that our Courtesy Patrol program poses on our state, we offer a bit of insight to our esteemed lawmakers in hopes that this program’s main focus and priorities are not lost among all of the budgetary maneuvering that is sure to follow.

Webster’s defines courtesy (in part) as: “Consideration, cooperation and generosity in providing something as a gift or gesture”; and patrol (in part) as: “The action of traversing a district or region for observation, or the maintenance of security.”

As both residents and proprietors of an overnight accommodations establishment, located in a rural county in one of the most sparsely populated states east of the Mississippi River, it goes without saying that on more than one occasion, the Courtesy Patrol has escorted many wayward travelers to our doorstep, under a variety of circumstances.

As we accommodate and help facilitate the repairs needed to get them toward their destination, we can’t help but notice the outpouring of gratitude that everyone universally feels toward these “Sentinels of the Highway” for having someone come to their aid during what is sometimes a dire situation.

When you attempt to determine the total economic value of “World Class Hospitality” in what is increasingly becoming an international tourism market, please don’t forget to factor in the warmth that a 4-year-old child feels sitting in that white truck cab, as her father profusely thanks the driver for coming to their aid, up there in forever “Wild and Wonderful” Nicholas County, West Virginia.
